Limousine Service

By Vasiliy Zaitsev

A limousine is a longer than normal luxury car. The body may have been extended by the manufacturing company or by an independent custom car shop, traditionally black limo or white limo in color. Limousines are most commonly driven by chauffeurs and until the mid-1990s were most often associated with the wealthy. They are also used for special occasions such as weddings, parties and sight-seeing tours.

There is couple of forms limousine ownership: large companies to transport executives, or by broadcasters to transport guests, governments to transport senior politicians, and owned by individuals. Most limousines, however, operate as livery vehicles.

Well known fact that first limousine was built in 1902 and originally was designed such way so driver sat in a separate roof covered cabin. Name came from French province Limousine, and widely popular there cloak hood resembles drivers covered compartment.

The first Stretch Limousine was created in Fort Smith, Arkansas around 1928 by a coach company named Armbruster. These cars were primarily used to transport famous big band leaders, such as Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, and their bands and equipment. These early stretch limousines were often called big band buses.

There is an unwritten rule for professional limo company: proper attire is worn by the chauffeur at all times. Here is typical professional limo driver should dress like: dark pants and jacket, a crisp white dress shirt and dark tie, polished black shoes. Some companies have uniforms for their chauffeurs. However do not panic if your driver came with no jacket or not in white shirt. Some companies do not keep strictly to this standard, and there is wide variation throughout the limousine industry.

Automobile manufacturers market specific makes and models that are targeted at particular socio economic classes, and thus social status came to be associated more with a particular vehicle than ownership of a car per se. Therefore, automakers differentiate among their product lines in collusion with the car-buying public. While a high price is the most frequent factor, it is styling, engineering, and even public opinion which cars had the highest and lowest status associated with them.
